Michihamono developed this bent u-gouge with an extra-long blade to reach into the recesses of Noh masks, allowing the craftsperson to excavate the hollow back that sits over the face.

However, we have found the large radius across the edge of this gouge to be really nicely suited to carving subtle recesses in spoons, spatulas and other forms. 

This tool uses Michihamono's stunning HSS laminated edge with a beautiful hinoki (cypress) handle.
